Currently I do not take insurance. I do send invoices for each session, on which you can find my KVK and VAT numbers. Some insurances outside of the Netherlands might partially reimburse therapy and coaching services. Please check with your insurance first.
Sessions can be canceled or postponed 24 hours in advance. No shows and late cancellations will be billed at full price (with the exception of emergency situations).
Things happen. It is good practice to give each other grace and understanding whenever possible. However, repeated no shows and late cancellations do have a negative impact on the therapeutic relationship. This policy goes into effect if no shows and late cancellations happen repeatedly and affect the working process.
I am a member of the Professional Association of Social Workers in the Netherlands (BPSW) and I follow the professional code of ethics: https://www.bpsw.nl/app/uploads/BPSW-Beroepscode-2021.pdf
I am registered as a care provider with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, and as such I comply with the Healthcare Quality, Complaints and Disputes Act (WKKGZ). I am subject to inspections from the ministry that ensure the quality of my work and of the logistics of my practice.
I have regular supervision meetings and participate in biweekly intervision meetings with colleagues that come from a variety of mental health professions.
We would likely not be a good match if…
❦ You are seeking a diagnosis. I am a counseling therapist, which means that I don’t diagnose psychiatric conditions and don’t prescribe medication
❦ You are younger than 18 years. I only work with adults (i.e. persons who have reached the age of majority)
❦ The nature of the issues you would like to work on is complex or acute, such as suicidality, self-harm, or experiencing non-consensus reality (sometimes called “psychosis” or “mania”), and/or you are likely to experience a crisis situation. Since my chronic illness requires careful planning in order to be able to work at all, I am not available for short-notice sessions and crisis support and it would be irresponsible of me to take on clients who are likely to require this kind of support
❦ If you are seeking support with substance use, disordered eating, domestic violence, or sexual trauma. These issues are currently outside of the scope of my expertise
I highly value and welcome clients’ feedback about my work. Both positive and negative feedback is crucial for maintaining and improving the quality of my offerings.
When you as a client are dissatisfied with my work, first please try to bring it up in a conversation with me or by filling in a feedback form. We will try to find a solution together. If this conversation still doesn’t bring a solution, you have a possibility to file an official complaint with an independent complaint officer. You can find the link to the feedback form and a detailed explanation of the complaint procedure in the appendix to your client agreement.
Therapy – especially individual therapy – was never intended to be a be-all, end-all of mental wellbeing. So often, people’s mental health suffers because their basic needs for safety and belonging are not met.
Are you burnt out from unrealistic workload? Are you stressed about your visa not being renewed? Are you feeling unsafe on the street because of harassment? Are you tired from carrying the unrelenting burden of everyday racism? Are you feeling alienated because of inadequate disability accommodations?
No therapist can take away the root causes of such stress and it’s important to acknowledge this. But it doesn’t mean that therapy or coaching can’t help at all. When working with a therapist cannot solve the root cause of your stress, I can still offer support with…
❦ developing skills and practices that bolster resilience to minority stress
❦ recognizing and managing triggers
❦ dismantling internalized oppression
❦ self-acceptance
❦ emotional management skills
❦ finding diverse sources of care
❦ cultivating practices of joy
❦ building community
❦ creating a gentle space to process your feelings
❦ channeling your energy into activism
In therapy and coaching I can be there for you while you are setting up your life in a way that nourishes and sustains you.
Having lived experience of chronic illness has both benefits and drawbacks for my work as a therapist.
On the one hand, it prompted me to educate myself more on disability justice and I bring that lens to my work. On the other hand, it can make logistics of practice more complicated.
I am not available for short-notice sessions because I need to plan my energy and rest. Sometimes I also might communicate slower: things like responding to emails or sending resources might take an additional day or two.
I don’t cancel sessions often but chronic illness has a way of throwing you a curveball when you least expect it. If I feel that my physical state prevents me from offering you good care, I will reschedule the session.
Finally, I cannot offer discounts beyond my existing sliding scale because otherwise I would not be able to have a sustainable practice within the limited working hours available to me.
