For Academics

An important part of my practice is supporting students, professors, and researchers in their professional well-being and their anti-oppression work within academia, as well as in post-ac transition.

I support academics at all stages of their careers. My therapy, coaching, and peer support offerings might be a good fit if…

❦  You are overwhelmed with workload and would like to be supported in figuring out how to work sustainably

❦  You want to build a gentler, more inclusive corner in academia for yourself and others

❦  You are coming up against institutional resistance to your DEI work

❦  You feel like you don’t belong

❦  You feel ambiguous about whether to stay or leave and would like to explore that ambiguity

❦  You want to exit academia and would like to be supported while you process emotions and identity shift that can come with this experience

My experiences in academia

I came to care work after a career in academia. After receiving my PhD from University of California in Berkeley I spent three years as a faculty member at Utrecht University, and a year each as a visiting researcher at Princeton University and the University of Michigan.

This career propelled me to levels of financial and educational privilege I could not even imagine. At the same time,  inhabiting academic institutions as a person who was never meant to be a part of them took great a great toll on my mental and physical health.

❦ Having experienced three different academic systems (Russian, European, and North American) helped me relativize institutional norms

❦ Going back to school after being a professor gave me a better understanding of academia’s grind culture

❦ Having left academia, I know what it feels like to go through an identity shift and and the emotional labor of divesting from academic hierarchies
